This week’s featured releases come from 3Bjunior and GEM.
Our first featured release of 2014 is brought to you by 3Bjunior. In short, 3Bjunior is the collective term for Stardust Promotion’s idol groups (Momoclo, Ebichu, Syachihoko, etc) and what they did here was get them all together to perform a song. Following along so far? Good. Anyway, the song is okay I guess. It’s fairly mellow and relaxing and everyone gets to showcase their voice which is cool if you’re into that kind of thing. The PV has a lot of shades of Band Aid which probably wasn’t intentional but the comparison is there and I feel obligated to draw it. Overall, if you’re a fan of any of the groups involved you’ll probably be able to get something out of this. Otherwise, it’s going to be a pretty hard sell.
This week’s other featured release comes from GEM. They’re 2014’s debutantes from Avex’s iDOL Street program and this serves as their debut single. iDOL Street has produced some pretty strong groups in the past few years in the form of SUPER☆GiRLS and Cheeky Parade so there’s a lot to live up to here. On the whole, I think the song is pretty good actually. It’s not exactly blowing my mind or anything that crazy but it has a pretty solid hook and the instrumentals are pleasing to the ears. Will GEM have a good showing in 2014? It’s hard to say. I thought Cheeky Parade started off 2013 on a high and then kinda trailed off towards the end of the year. Time will tell but they seem to be off to a good start at least.
ALSO THIS WEEK:
“Sutada 3Bjunior Last Dai Zenshuu” by 3Bjunior
“Team N 1st Stage “Dareka no Tame Ni”” by NMB48
“Team N 2nd Stage “Seishun Girls”” by NMB48
“Team M 1st Stage “Idol no Yoake”” by NMB48
“Team BII 1st Stage “Aitakatta”” by NMB48
“Team BII 2nd Stage “Tadaima Renai Chuu”” by NMB48
This week’s other releases see 3Bjunior also releasing an album. I haven’t heard it so I can’t really make a recommendation either way but again chances are if you like any of the Stardust groups you’ll like the album. Oh and NMB48 are releasing a bunch of stage albums which is cool I guess even if we have heard all of the songs a million times at this point. Still, it’ll be cool to hear NMB sing them I suppose.
Just to wrap things up here; it’s probably not quite New Year yet when you’re reading this so I just want to say thanks for your continued readership, hope you don’t party too hard on the night and I hope 2014 is as good to you (or even better) as 2013 was. Until next week.
